5WGaming/The Sports Game Guy Podcast: September 18, 2009

This week, TheSportsGameGuy.com’s Damon Peterson and I discuss the recently released NHL 10, and talk about why many reviewers think that sports games need a new feature to “wow” them every year – and why they’re wrong. Sports games can be far more than just a roster update, as they’re often accused of, but the trick is displaying what’s changed to those who aren’t into the sport already. We also touch upon the latest Sony/Microsoft battleground: console bundles. With high-profile bundles for Modern Warfare 2, the latest Forza Motorsport (in Europe) and Uncharted 2, the console-makers keep slugging it out. Who wins? Well, you. Uncharted 2 will even post to Twitter for you, and we have our thoughts on whether this is a good or bad thing for the industry. Scribblenauts, one of my new favorite titles for the Nintendo DS, is definitely a good thing for the industry, and Damon brings one of his new favorites into the discussion… a bean bag. We wrap up with a brief discussion of the NBA Live 10 demo and its new, contextual post-up controls and admit to a mix of trepidation and excitement surrounding the game’s retail release in October. Please check out the latest podcast below and feel free to leave any feedback that you might have for us. Thanks for listening!

5WGaming/The Sports Game Guy Podcast: September 3, 2009

We missed a week or two but we are back with another podcast. Lots of good info in this one.
This week, TheSportsGameGuy.com’s Damon Peterson and I play host to a special guest: NBA Live 10 producer Marcus Stephenson, who joins us from the EA Canada studios in metro Vancouver to talk about EA Sports’ upcoming basketball title. Marcus tells us how the next NBA Live has been improved, explains why they consider it a “sim”, and what he likes best about the game. Even better? He’ll tell you when you can get your hands on it for yourself, discussing the game’s demo release and what to expect in it. Afterwards, we step outside the basketball arena and discuss what else is capturing our attention in the gaming world, specifically Batman: Arkham Asylum and next week’s The Beatles: Rock Band. Please check out the latest podcast below and feel free to leave any feedback that you might have for us. Thanks for listening!

5WGaming/The Sports Game Guy Podcast: August 08, 2009

This weeks podcast is up.  As always it was great to talk gaming with Shawn Drotar of 5wgaming.com and this week we were joined by Dougie Veney.  A big thanks Dougie for coming on the show and make sure to check out his site StickSkills.com.  Expect to see more of Dougie on the show in the future.  Check below as Shawn outlines the show for you.
In our latest podcast, TheSportsGameGuy.com’s Damon Peterson and I are joined by Dougie Veney, our guest from StickSkills.com. Dougie created his site as a senior project in high school, and we talk about how it’s grown into the lively spot it is today. The three of us discuss what’s dominating our gaming time at the moment – and the titles we mention probably aren’t the ones you’d expect. Later, Damon and Dougie, who both attended the NHL 10 Community event at the EA Canada studios earlier this year, share their thoughts about what they saw and what they’re looking forward to from this fall’s game. We wrap up with a spirited conversation surrounding the recent pre-release deals that EA Sports has cut with retailer GameStop and why it’s good for business, but not good for the games’ thousands of online users. Please check out the latest podcast below and feel free to leave any feedback that you might have for us. Thanks for listening!

5WGaming/The Sports Game Guy Podcast: July 28, 2009

For lack of time this morning I am going to blatantly copy Shawn’s overview of this weeks podcast.  In short we had some special guests on the show.
In our latest podcast, TheSportsGameGuy.com’s Damon Peterson and I have an opportunity to sit down with EA Sports’ Will “Raczilla” Kinsler and Justin Dewiel, community managers at EA’s Tiburon studios. Even though it’s still July, Kinsler and Dewiel are hip-deep in the football world with the recent release of NCAA Football 10 and the upcoming Madden NFL 10, and they have stories to share about both titles. The four of us talk about online gaming, the feature sets of both of EA Sports’ football titles and learn a bit more about who won and who lost during last week’s NCAA Community Playdate. After that, we discuss two interesting Madden initiatives; the recently-unveiled Hall of Fame program (if you want to enter, your videos are due here by Friday, July 31!) and get the inside scoop regarding next month’s Madden Community playdate, currently scheduled for August 27. As NFL training camps report this week, it’s a timely and entertaining half-hour for the sports gamer. Please check out the latest podcast below and feel free to leave any feedback that you might have for us. Thanks for listening!
