Dynamic DNA Updates: Week 8

It’s the first of February and because it’s Monday we’re back with another edition of Dynamic DNA Updates presented by NBA LIVE 10. All Star Weekend is almost upon us (just a mere two weeks away) and the anticipation for the event is really building up. Let’s add to that anticipation by getting into the players who may not be All Stars themselves this year, but they have the potential to be on the big stage next year. Let’s get this going with the first player we’ll take a look at, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. The Toronto Raptors have been red hot lately having won five in a row and Andrea Bargnani has looked solid during that stretch. Taking a look at his DNA you can break down what has been working for him as of late: andrea-bargnani-dna-1 Andrea loves his jump shot. When 61% of his scoring is coming from the jumper you’d better believe he’s in love with it. Bargs has been showing a lot of variety in his offense with his usage of posting up defenders as well as attacking the rim with authority. He’s developing the balance that is needed to be a successful, versatile player in the NBA. Taking a further look into his DNA we can also see what has been working for him with regards to his shooting success: andrea-bargnani-dna-2 As the season has been playing out, Bargnani has slowly been making bigger strides in his development. Looking at his shot streaks statistics his jump shot, at the basket and post-up numbers are solid when compared to other power forwards in the NBA. Bargnani is shooting a solid 42% with his jump shot and considering this man has very good range with his jumper that’s a great shooting percentage. The number that obviously jumps to anyone’s attention is his scoring at the basket. He’s been finishing well when attacking the rim and with the addition of his solid jump shot this will make him a much more dangerous player. andrea-bargnani-dna-21 We have been talking about Andrea’s jump shot being his favorite scoring method. Breaking it down it’s easy to see why he loves his jumper. All of his numbers for the most part are better than the power forward average in the NBA. His short, mid and long range jump shots are at a very good percentage and he’s scoring well regardless of the situation he is in on the court looking at his situation breakdown numbers. If he keeps working hard to improve his defense we could be looking at a potential All Star in the future. Next up we have Amare Stoudemire of the Phoenix Suns. The Suns have re-instituted their exciting run and gun style of play and Stoudemire has definitely benefitted from it. This guy knows how to bring the thunder when attacking the basket and taking a quick look at his DNA, attacking the basket is what he loves to do the most: amare-stoudamire-dna-1 While he has incorporated a solid mid range jump shot to his arsenal, when you think of Amare Stoudemire you think of the vicious one hand tomahawk dunks he delivers when receiving those slick passes from Steve Nash. Taking a look at his perimeter tendencies below here’s what he likes to do when he has the ball: amare-stoudamire-dna-2 When Amare is in the perimeter he has a very balanced attack. While he is slightly more likely to attack the rim with his right than his left, he’s also known for busting out the no dribble jump shot in the perimeter. The addition of having a mid-range game has made him more versatile but his lack of defense is still apparent despite all the gifts he possesses with his offensive skill set. There’s still another half of the NBA season left to be played so let’s see what Amare plans on doing for the next half of action. The last player we will be looking at is Andrew Bogut of the Milwaukee Bucks. Normally when you think of the Milwaukee Bucks you think of Brandon Jennings (it used to be Michael Redd but he’s been cursed with the injury bug as of late) but Bogut’s contributions cannot be ignored. He’s been playing great basketball this year and he’s been a double-double machine for the Bucks. Looking at his DNA, Bogut is the prototypical in the paint center you would expect to see in the NBA: andrew-bogut-dna-1 andrew-bogut-dna-2 Taking a look at his DNA above that breaks down his shooting, he’s been very efficient when he has the ball in his hands. He’s at his best when he’s attacking the basket and his jump shot is decent at best. He’s just below the league average regarding his post-up game but he’s still young and has room to improve, and judging from his play this season he’s definitely getting better. The Bucks will be an interesting team to watch as Bogut continues to improve. All Star Weekend is drawing closer so next week’s edition of Dynamic DNA Updates will take a look at the All Stars who made the squad and we’ll break down their DNA at the halfway point of the NBA season. We’ll be back again next week with another edition of Dynamic DNA Updates presented by NBA LIVE 10. Enjoy the first day of February!
