I was able to attend a NBA 2K10 Developer call that took place Friday October 2nd of last week.  I have some highlights from the call listed below and you’ll also see a link to the full audio of the call provided by our friends at ConsoleSports.
  • Most notable new feature was the NBA Today feature which brings up to date match-ups daily from the NBA and dynamic commentary that will also be updated daily.   The commentary is built on a system where the audio has all been pre-recorded but the database can pull things from the set of audio to keep the commentary fresh and reflect things happening in the real life NBA.
  • The NBA 2K team feels their feature set with modes such as My Player, Online Crews, In Depth Franchise mode, NBA today and more is the best available.
  • The Draft Combine is not a good judge of how NBA 2K10 plays and was only a taste.
  • Facial Expressions which makes players more recognizable in game was created based on extensive video watching.
  • AI Offense has improved with brand new system of signature play tendencies based on 82games data.
  • AI Defense has been improved with true team rotation
  • There are many control schemes to choose from in but no custom button mapping.
  • The 24/7 mode has been replace my My Player Career mode
  • NBA 2K will be coming to the PC with a Next Gen port and selling for $19.99
  • The defensive lock down has been changed from being as automated when holding down the LT. The LT button is now more of a intense defensive positioning.  It can be used to force your offensive opponent where you would like them to go.
  • ISO motion is now only on the LT and not a combination of LT and RT.  This will separate the turbo and make things more straight forward as to when you are wanting to make a move.
  • Point guards passing into the paint has been tweaked and is not as easy in 2K10
  • Being able to break out of animations has been improved
  • Free throw mechanic stays the same but possibly looking into innovating for 2K11.
  • The crowing around the ball in team play in 2K9 will not be as effective this year.  Kicking out to open teammates will result in open looks that will most likely be knocked down.  Also the speed as to which a defensive player can close in on an open shooter has been adjusted.  This will promote players to play correctly otherwise they will give up a lot of open looks.
  • The 360 version has customizable game specific moments that allows you to use music from you hard drive to create the sounds.
  • The franchise player salary bug from 2K9 has been fixed.
  • A new feature that allows uploading videos direcly from the game pause menu.
  • Online Crews is a team of online friends that will have leader boards and the ability to create custom uniforms.
  • The Wii version of 2K10 has the full feature set.
  • Online Team-Up netcode has been improved to provide a much better experience
  • A patch is in the works based on community feedback
